Whether guest-house, hotel, B&B or just a room – the relevant tourist offices can help with finding accommodation, either before or after your Karwendel High Altitude Trail experience. If you prefer, you can book something yourself directly via their website pages.
There are patches of old snow on the Karwendel Höhenweg, particularly around the Frau-Hitt-Kars, the Stempeljoch and on the Wilde-Bande-Steig!!! Appropriate equipment and mountaineering experience are essential!
Due to renovation work, the Nördlinger Hut will be closed from September 2026 until the start of the 2028 season. During this time, the hut will not be open for business (no overnight accommodation or refreshments available!). The last night’s accommodation will be on 16 August 2026, and day business will continue until 30 August 2026. The Karwendel Höhenweg can still be walked with a few adjustments (Stages 2 and 1 in a single day)! Two alternative routes are described below:
Alternative 1 (Stage 1 using the cable car + Stage 2): The starting point is the valley station of the Rosshütte Bergbahnen in Seefeld. Take the funicular to the Rosshütte and continue on the Härmelekopfbahn to the start of the hike (2045 m). From here, head directly via the Kuntersteig to the Nördlinger Hütte. Without stopping for food or accommodation, continue on to the Solsteinhaus (see Stage 2). Cable car journey approx. 25 mins + walking time via the Kuntersteig to the Nördlinger Hütte (1 hr) + walking time for Stage 2 (approx. 4 hrs) = total time: approx. 5.5 hrs. The route can also be walked in the opposite direction (5,5hrs)!
Variant 2 (stage 1 + stage 2 on foot): Very fit mountaineers can simply combine stage 1 and stage 2 and walk from the starting point in Reith bei Seefeld via the Nördlinger Hut (but without overnight stay/refreshments) directly to the Solsteinhaus (approx. 1500 m uphill, 800 m downhill, 13.2 km long with a walking time of approx. 8:30 hours). The trail can also be walked in the opposite direction (7hrs)!
Option 3 (without stage 1 + without stage 2): You can also ascend directly from the valley to the Solsteinhaus and start the Karwendel Höhenweg here (see Solsteinhaus > Access options). The trail can also be walked in the opposite direction!
Alteschneefelder auf dem Karwendel Höhenweg, vorallem im Bereich des Frau-Hitt-Kars, des Stempeljochs und am Wilde-Bande-Steig!!! Eine entsprechende Ausrüstung bzw. alpintechnische Erfahrung ist notwendig!
Aufgrund von Sanierungsarbeiten ist die Nördlinger Hütte ab September 2026 bis Saisonstart 2028 geschlossen. Während dieser Zeit ist die Hütte nicht bewirtschaftet (keine Übernachtungs- oder Einkehrmöglichkeit!). Die letzte Übernachtungsmöglichkeit ist am 16.08.2026, das Tagesgeschäft läuft noch bis zum 30.08.2026. Der Karwendel Höhenweg kann mit einigen Adaptionen trotzdem begangen (Etappe 2 und Etappe 1 an einem Tag)! Nachfolgend sind zwei Varianten beschrieben:
Variante 1 (Etappe 1 mit Seilbahnunterstützung + Etappe 2): Startpunkt ist die Talstation der Rosshütte Bergbahnen in Seefeld. Man nimmt die Standseilbahn zur Rosshütte und fährt weiter mit der Härmelekopfbahn zum Startpunkt der Wanderung (2045 m). Von hier direkt über den Kuntersteig zur Nördlinger Hütte. Ohne Ü/Einkehr weiter zum Solsteinhaus (siehe Etappe 2). Bahnfahrt ca. 25min + Gehzeit über Kuntersteig zur Nördlinger Hütte (1h) + Gehzeit Etappe 2 (ca. 4h) = Gesamtzeit: ca. 5,5h. Der Weg ist auch in die andere Gehrichtung möglich (5,5h)!
Variante 2 (Etappe 1 + Etappe 2 zu Fuss): Sehr ausdauerstarke BergsteigerInnen können die Etappe 1 und die Etappe 2 einfach zusammenlegen und gehen vom Ausgangspunkt Reith bei Seefeld über die Nördlinger Hütte (aber ohne Ü/Einkehr) direkt bis zum Solsteinhaus (ca. 1500hm bergauf, 800hm bergab, 13,2km lang mit einer Gehzeit von ca. 8:30h). Der Weg ist auch in die andere Gehrichtung möglich (7h)!
Variante 3 (ohne Etappe 1 + ohne Etappe 2): Man kann auch direkt vom Tal zum Solsteinhaus aufsteigen und den Karwendel Höhenweg erst hier beginnen (siehe Solsteinhaus > Zustiegsmöglichkeiten). Der Weg ist auch in die andere Gehrichtung möglich!
